Bringing home your new baby is one of the most exciting (and exhausting) times of your life. Between sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and soaking in every tiny yawn and stretch, the last thing you need is the added stress of wondering whether your home is “photo ready.”
The good news? It does NOT have to be photo ready, like really!
As a lifestyle newborn photographer serving Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, and families throughout Southern California, I believe your newborn session should feel relaxed, meaningful, and completely centered around your growing family. My goal is to document this season exactly as it unfolds, no pressure, no perfect poses, just beautiful moments you’ll treasure for years to come. And trust me, I will still document it in a way that will make it look cute, clean and timeless no messy house coming in the photos but doesn’t mean you have to deep clean before.

One of the questions I get asked most often is, “When should we book?”
The best time is during your second trimester. I reserve your due date rather than a specific session date, which allows us to schedule your session after your little one arrives. Because I only accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month, booking early helps ensure I have availability around your due date.
If you’re planning maternity photos as well, ask about my maternity and newborn bundle collections. Many families continue with milestone sessions and annual family portraits, creating a beautiful collection of memories throughout their child’s first year.

One of the biggest surprises for new parents is how little of the house we actually use.
Most sessions take place in just a few areas with beautiful natural light, including:
Your home doesn’t need to look like a magazine. We simply look for the best light and use the spaces that tell your family’s story.

Absolutely not.
I promise I’m not coming to inspect your home.
Before your session, I may ask you to quickly clear a nightstand, move a laundry basket, or tidy a small corner near a window. That’s usually all we need for the photos.
Your baby won’t remember whether the dishes were done, I won’t even remember that, but you’ll always remember how tiny they looked sleeping in your arms.

Most of these are everyday baby essentials that many families already have nearby. Keeping them within reach simply helps the session flow smoothly.
My favorites include:
None of these items are required, they’re simply helpful to have nearby.
Over the years, I’ve photographed hundreds of newborns, and I’ve found that simple, timeless pieces photograph beautifully while keeping the focus on your baby.
Some favorites include:
These classic pieces never go out of style and complement almost every home.

Simple, neutral clothing photographs beautifully and keeps the focus where it belongs and should be…on your family’s connection.
Creams, whites, oatmeal, soft blues, sage greens, and warm earth tones work especially well for in-home newborn sessions. For girl, think soft pink, mauves, creams or a very faint soft floral pattern.
First of all, this is 100% expected and totally not a big deal.
Your newborn doesn’t need to sleep through the entire session, and there is never any pressure to “perform.”
We take breaks whenever your baby needs to:
Some of my favorite images happen during those quiet in-between moments. I like to not only capture the sleepy picture perfect moments but the messy middle moments too because they can be just as beautiful. Here is another in home newborn session for beautiful inspiration.

Toddlers are wonderfully unpredictable and that’s perfectly okay. I have toddlers myself and I know the anxiety of having to manage them in photoshoots can be there but I work with this age all the time and I promise you we will make it fun so they will like taking photos.
I keep sessions relaxed, playful, and flexible. We capture sibling portraits first while attention spans are fresh, then let your little one take breaks to play or have a snack while we focus on baby.
Those genuine hugs, giggles, and curious moments often become parents’ favorite photographs. I also think that by having the session at home allows for the toddlers to go take a break and come back without running off somewhere and getting dirty.

There is something incredibly special about documenting your family in the place where your baby’s story begins.
You don’t have to pack the car, rush to a studio, or worry about forgetting something important.
Instead, you can stay comfortable in your own home while we capture:
These photographs become more meaningful with every passing year.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is watching families grow.
Many of my clients begin with maternity photos, return for newborn sessions, celebrate six-month milestones, and finish baby’s first year with a one-year session before continuing with annual family portraits. This is such a great package to purchase because not only do you receive a discount but you also can create gorgeous albums through Redtree that I can help you curate.
Watching your story unfold year after year is one of the greatest privileges of my job.
Lifestyle newborn photography is flexible. Beautiful images can be created well beyond the first few weeks. They may not be quite as sleepy but still amazing memories to document.
Most newborn sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, and cuddling.
Absolutely. If they’re an important part of your family’s story, I’d love to include them.
That’s never a problem. Beautiful light matters far more than square footage. Even with poor lighting, we can capture some really beautiful moments.
Yes! I photograph families throughout Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Moorpark, Camarillo, Ventura, Oxnard, Simi Valley, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. We also have a team of associates that can be available if needed who do amazing work.

If you’re expecting and looking for a relaxed, natural newborn photography experience, I’d love to help document this incredible season for your family.
My in-home lifestyle sessions are designed to feel calm, comfortable, and authentic…capturing not just what your baby looked like, but what this season felt like.
Because I accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month to accommodate due dates, I recommend reaching out during your pregnancy to reserve your spot.
Whether you’re interested in a newborn session, maternity and newborn bundle, or documenting your baby’s first year, I’d be honored to tell your family’s story.
