There is something so special about photographing your family in the fall.
The kids are growing, the seasons are changing, and suddenly you’re realizing another year has passed. Fall is the perfect time to slow down for a little while and capture the people you love exactly as they are right now.
If you’re looking for fall mini sessions in Thousand Oaks, my fall sessions are designed for families who want beautiful, natural photographs without committing to a full-length family session.
These sessions are relaxed, connection-focused, and perfect for families who want updated photos before the holidays and only offered one time a year.
Since I only offer a limited number of fall dates, I recommend reserving your session early. I typically open up bookings for fall mini sessions towards the end of summer.

Thousand Oaks is one of my favorite areas for outdoor family photography.
The Conejo Valley has beautiful natural scenery that works perfectly for the warm, earthy feeling of fall photographs. You don’t need to travel somewhere with rows of changing orange leaves to create beautiful autumn family photos.
Instead, I love using the natural landscape, golden evening light, and thoughtfully chosen outfits to create photographs that feel warm, timeless, and distinctly Southern California. Even a beautiful beach session can capture the essence of a fall or winter feeling but with a socal twist.
Whether you’re looking for updated family photos, pictures of your growing children, or photographs to use for your holiday cards, a fall mini session is a simple way to make it happen.

Fall mini sessions are especially great if you’ve been telling yourself:
“We really need updated family pictures.”
But between school, sports, work, activities, and everything else that comes with raising a family, actually scheduling them keeps getting pushed back.
A mini session gives you a short, intentional window to get everyone together and create beautiful photographs without taking up your entire day.
They’re perfect for:

And don’t worry if your kids aren’t exactly thrilled about taking pictures, this is my expertise. They don’t need to sit perfectly still or smile at the camera the entire time, actually I prefer they don’t do this for every photo. Some of my favorite photographs happen when children are simply being themselves.

My approach to family photography is natural, relaxed, and focused on connection. My goal is to make sure your gallery doesn’t look like a series of everyone standing in a line and smiling at the camera.
I’ll guide you through the session so you don’t have to worry about what to do with your hands or how to pose, but I’ll also give your family space to interact naturally.

We’ll capture a combination of:
Family portraits
Everyone together for those classic photographs you’ll want to frame.
Sibling moments
The hugs, laughs, and personalities that make your children who they are.
Parent-and-child photographs
The little moments between you and your children that you’ll treasure as they get older.
Candid photographs
Movement, laughter, cuddles, and all of those in-between moments.
The result is a gallery that feels like your family and the moments you share, not a perfectly posed version of you.

One of the biggest questions I get before family sessions is:
“What are we supposed to wear?”
The good news is that you don’t need everyone dressed in matching outfits. However, I know how hard it is to put outfit combos together. I do this for a living and I struggle when it comes to our own photos.
For fall photographs, I love a soft, neutral and earthy color palette that complements the natural surroundings.
Think:

Textures such as knits, linen, denim, corduroy, and cozy sweaters can also add beautiful dimension to your photographs.
The goal isn’t to make everyone match. I want it to be cohesive more-so than matching.
It’s to make everyone’s outfits feel like they belong together while still allowing each person’s personality to come through.
And because we’re in Southern California, you don’t have to force your family into heavy sweaters if it’s still warm outside. Choose layers and fabrics that make sense for the weather but feel free to add that cozy element if you want that look too, anything really works.
Check out this blog here that goes into more detail on what to wear to your family session.

You don’t need to know how to pose before you arrive. Please don’t overthink this or even worry about it one bit. I’ll guide you throughout the session and help keep things moving, especially when little ones have their own ideas about how the session should go.
We’ll start with a few traditional family photographs so you can have that Christmas card shot and then let things become more playful and natural.
Depending on your children, that might mean walking, snuggling, playing, dancing, exploring, or simply letting them be themselves. The session may be short, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel rushed. The goal is to make the experience easy and enjoyable while creating photographs you’ll love. Also, do NOT feel ashamed of offering some incentives to your kiddos too- ice cream after, candy etc. I also bring some treats to help with this as well.

Fall sessions are popular for a reason. They’re perfectly timed for families who want photographs for the holiday season so your children can be the age they currently are for holiday cards.
Your photographs can be used for:
Holiday cards
Send out an updated photograph of your family to friends and family.
Christmas gifts
Grandparents rarely complain about getting photographs of their grandchildren.
Framed photographs
Update the photographs hanging in your home with images from this season of your family.
Annual family photos
Document how much everyone has changed since last year.
And perhaps most importantly, you’ll have photographs that remind you of what this particular season of your family looked like.
Because the toddler stage won’t last forever. That’s a blessing and also really really bittersweet. The missing front teeth won’t last forever. The way your kids still reach for your hand won’t last forever.
That’s what makes these photographs worth having.
If you’re hoping to take fall family photos this year, now is the time to reserve your spot.
Fall mini sessions are limited because I only have a certain number of dates and evening time slots available.
The most popular times tend to go first, and waiting until October or November can leave you with fewer options.
They’re also especially popular with families who want to have their photographs ready for holiday cards.
My 2026 fall mini session email list is currently open for booking. Instagram booking will open soon after.
If you’ve been waiting for the right time to update your family photographs, this is it.

I photograph families throughout Thousand Oaks and the surrounding Conejo Valley, including families in nearby areas such as Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Moorpark.
Whether your family has lived here for years or you’ve recently moved to the area, I’d love to help you create photographs that document this season of your life.
You don’t need perfectly behaved children.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t even need to love having your picture taken. I will make this a fun time even when your kiddos are not behaving, we just get it to work :).

Spots are limited, so if you already know you’d like updated family photos this fall, I recommend getting on the list and reserving your session before the most popular dates are gone.
