Turning one, what a huge milestone for your child, I can’t wait to share some cute ideas for one year old birthday photos in San Diego. These milestone sessions are my fave! I love seeing how the little ones have grown so much and how excited they are for all the new little things happening in their lives. I have included some sessions I’ve captured throughout San Diego over the last few years for some cute ideas and inspiration.

First things first, cake smashes are such a big hit. For both parents and child for obvious reasons. This is such an adorable way to remember this special birthday and see the excitement in your child’s eyes as they dig into all that frosting! How cute would an album full of these images be!?

For this sweet little lady, we did something so special and I brought this old rocking chair that I’ve had since I was a little girl. It was so cute and vintagey and she thought it was so fun to sit on. Mom brought her favorite stuffed bunny rabbit and a cute glittery number one sign. She was the sweetest little thing.

At another location in San Diego, we had another sweet little girl turning one who had a similar idea used! I can’t get enough of her smile!

For this session, we kept things simple and it was so sweet. That’s oftentimes all you need to make the most precious memories- a beautiful backdrop, family and the special little one year old!

Thinking of ideas is half the fun and I am always excited to work with you on coming up with something unique and creative, it’s part of what I love about photography! Here are some helpful tips:

1. If you decide to do a cake smash, make sure it’s vanilla frosting or any light colored frosting. Sometimes the chocolate can look a little like something stinky, if you know what I mean.
2. Don’t use a cake with fondit – it’ll be too hard for your little one to smash into (a great cake shop in the San Diego area is Cute Cakes!)
3. Keep things simple, one reason is little ones can get overwhelmed so easily (as I’m sure you know) and the other is that it makes for simpler more timeless photos.
4. If you’re not a fan of cake or you already know your baby doesn’t like it, we can be creative…maybe a pancake smash? Or opt out of that and go for cute balloon garland background, the ideas are endless!
