It’s always such an honor and also so fun to photograph my clients maternity sessions especially when I will also be photographing their newborn session. I get to capture those fleeting moments just before baby arrives and then those precious, raw early moments as soon as baby is here. This timeless maternity photoshoot in Moorpark CA was one for the books. Perfect lighting, an amazing couple and the colors were everything-you couldn’t ask for better.

When my mamas ask me what they should wear for their maternity session, Lindsey pretty much encompasses the perfect example. Something flowy and forgiving, light, blue hues are always beautiful especially if you’re expecting a little boy. A great place to shop is Nothing Fits But. They even have matching little girls dresses if you are expecting a baby girl, like how much fun is that?! Other colors that photograph really great are beige, cream, mauve, light pink, brown, gray. The colors I always say to stay away from are bright ones like bright red, orange, yellow etc. The reason for this is they can reflect poorly off of the skin sometimes and makes post production (editing) a little more challenging. Regardless of all of this, I think at the end of the day the thing that makes it is that you feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing and feeling like your best self!

For guys, outfits are pretty easy (shocker right? hehe). I always recommend going with a neutral tone as well, even if you are wearing neutral you can’t go wrong with too many neutrals. Something simple like a beige/cream shirt with some beige pants or even a nice pair of jeans is perfect. Sometimes going a little less casual works out better than dressing up too much. It isn’t necessary to wear a fancy shirt and tie and shoes, toned down is always a little better in my opinion.

My sessions are focused on those candid moments. I strive to make the session one that you can look back on and feel those intricate moments again. I want to capture images of you holding belly, looking down at your sweet baby thats growing inside of you. All of those moments are the most special to me. I do always make sure I capture a few portraits because they are always nice to have but the majority of our time spent is capturing those candid and timeless images.

It was so fun capturing these two as they head into the world of parenthood. It is such a wonderful time and it’s also never the same after they arrive so capturing those moments before are so important.
