There is nothing sweeter and more fun than a 1st birthday cake smash. This groovy 1st birthday cake smash in Ventura was so adorable and I am just so excited to share these “sweet” images that we created.

First of all, this little girl can’t get any cuter right? Her adorable 70’s theme outfit, her strawberry blonde hair and her independent personality made these images so memorable.

Pro tip for those mamas out there that recently planned a cute 1st birthday party but want to also capture a cake smash. Take some of the props or goodies you used from the party and incorporate them in the session. This adds a little character and makes the cake smash session that much cuter. The wooden flower and cake stand were simple but added so much for the photos.

This girl was loving every moment of being photographed. Her bellbottoms were everything and made for a simple outfit switch for the actual cake smash. We captured her full personality in the bell bottoms and when it was time to smash into the cake, mom took the pants off and she wore a timeless white sweater onesie that was ideal for those light and airy photos.

It’s funny to see how each baby reacts in a cake smash. Some are hesitant and don’t really enjoy the sugar while others are allll about it. Sweet Charlie was definitely a huge fan of the cake, which made for the most adorable photos.

We knew the sugar was kicking in when she started clapping and laughing, it was the best!

We ended the session with some quick shots of mom with her baby girl. They were spur of the moment and so special.

This groovy 1st birthday cake smash in Ventura was such a wonderful session that allowed us to create amazing memories for this mama and also for this little girl when she gets older. I love capturing these milestones, they truly go by so fast.
